Get or Renew a Card

Getting a Library Card 
 
Getting a card is easy and free for most customers. Visit any CCPL library and bring:
  • proof of current address
  • photo ID
  • completed application (applications are also available at any library)  
 
Cards for Children 
  • Children 13 and under need a parent or guardian present to get a card.
  • Children 14 and older can get a card without a parent, but will still need a photo ID.
 

Card Benefits  

With a Chesterfield County Public Library card, you can:

  • check out books, CDs, and DVDs 
  • get free e-books, eAudiobooks and digital magazines
  • access online research materials
  • use library computers and laptops
  • reserve meeting rooms
  • register for events
  • use the makerspace 
 

Renewing Your Card 

Library cards need to be renewed every two years. To renew your card, visit or call your local library. You will be asked to confirm your contact information and clear any account balances. 

Who Can Get a Card 

 Free library cards are issued to residents of Chesterfield County and the following  localities:

  • Amelia
  • Charles City
  • Colonial Heights
  • Dinwiddie 
  • Goochland 
  • Hanover 
  • Henrico 
  • Hopewell
  • King and Queen
  • King William
  • New Kent
  • Petersburg
  • Powhatan 
  • Prince George
  • Richmond 
Non-residents may obtain an annual fee card for $28 per year.  An annual fee card provides full borrowing privileges.  This card is renewed yearly.
 

Visitors to Chesterfield County 

CCPL Computer Use Only cards, with no borrowing privileges, are provided for visitors 18 years and older from outside of the region for computer and material use inside the facilities. CCPL Annual Fee cards offer full access to its materials and services for residents of localities outside of the region for an annual fee.
