Using Your Card

Borrowing Materials 

  • Present your library card to borrow materials.
  • Borrow up to 30 items at one time, including up to 10 DVDs.
  • Renew materials up to three times, as long as there are no holds on the item.
  • Have up to 15 items on reserve at any time.
  • Receive email notifications when reserved items are ready for pickup.

Books, Magazines and CDs

The loan period is 28 days.
The fine for overdue books, magazines and CDs is 10 cents per day.


The loan period is one week.
The fine for overdue DVDs is $1 per day.
Parents can restrict a child's access to DVDs by requesting a "No DVD"or "No R-rated DVD" status on the child's card.

Hold pick-up notification

CCPL notifies you through email when your hold is ready. You may check to see if the email address in your account is current by logging into your account online or calling any library.

To change your email address online, you will need to log in and choose Modify Personal Info. If you are a first time user of our online system or have forgotten your PIN, choose Account Login. Instructions to create a PIN or reset your PIN are located at the bottom of the screen.


Items may be renewed up to three times unless they are on hold for another patron or are overdue. Materials may be renewed through your online account, over the phone, or at any library. To renew overdue library materials, please call during regular hours of operation and have your library card number available.  

Outside Book Returns

Outside book returns are available at all branches. Materials returned after hours are credited to the next business day. Drive-up book returns are available at the LaPrade and Ettrick-Matoaca branches.

Borrowing materials from CCPL's OverDrive site: 

A library card is needed to borrow digital materials (eBooks, eAudiobooks and digital videos).

  • You will not be able to borrow if your card has expired.
  • You may borrow up to 20 digital items at one time.
  • You may have up to 10 digital items on hold at one time.
  • An email address is necessary to receive holds notifications.

Lost Items

Lost items incur a $5 processing fee in addition to the cost of replacing the item.
