3D Printing

Chesterfield County Public Library offers a makerspace with a Makerbot Replicator 2 3D printer that is available to customers with a valid library card. Customers who wish to use the 3D printer must first complete a makerspace safety training course, which is offered on a drop-in basis at the Central Library every Tuesday from 3 p.m. – 7 p.m.

3D printers like the one at the library are a bit like traditional printers, but instead of printing in 2D on paper, they use plastic to print objects in 3D. CCPL’s 3D printer uses Polylactic acid, or PLA, which is made from renewable resources such as corn starch. Customers are using the Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer to create toys, artistic pieces, jewelry, parts for building robots, and components for prosthetic hands. What could you make with the 3D printer? Come by the makerspace and find out!
