Local History

The Central Library is closed for renovations through Fall 2017. A large selection of local history materials will be available at LaPrade. Please call the LaPrade Library at 804-318-8988 for more information.

Monday–Thursday 10 a.m.-9 p.m.

Friday-Saturday 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

The collection specializes in the genealogy, geography and history of Chesterfield County and its neighboring localities.

The library has a collection of images digitized from local collections, including photographs, manuscripts, prints, newsprints and more. Subjects vary from local history to library-related archives to the Civil War. Click here to view that collection.

Local Historical Societies

The Library actively collects books, manuscripts (including theses), annuals, maps, microforms, audio and video recordings, research files, photographs, and vertical file materials (articles, programs and newsletters) of local historical interest. Donations of the same are welcome.

If you need help using the Local History Collection, please contact the LaPrade Library to speak with a librarian.
