Do you ever wonder what life was like for older people you know when they were your age? We will explore intergenerational relationships for the next two weeks of Summer Learning!
Parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or people you aren’t related to all have stories to share! Maybe your local librarian has an interesting story about their childhood. Or perhaps someone in your family has a tasty recipe they’d love to share. However you choose to celebrate the stories of different generations, we look forward to sharing them with you.
To celebrate togetherness across generations, PreK and K-5 participants can complete one of the following activities for a chance to win an Amazon gift card!
- Craft at the library! Visit the intergenerational theme craft station at any CCPL location.
- Read or listen to any book with a multigenerational theme. Check out our curated booklist for suggestions.
- Play a board game with a grandparent or older adult.
- Make a family recipe. Choose a favorite family recipe and make the dish with a grandparent or older adult.
- Look at old photos with a grandparent or older adult. Ask questions. Learn about what has changed since the picture was taken and what has stayed the same.
- Take a walk together. Go on a walk with a grandparent or older adult. Ask them about the places they have been. Talk about places you would like to visit.
- Mail a hug to a grandparent or older adult.
- Make someone a medal! Give a grandparent or older adult a handmade metal to let them know they are special.
- Listen to favorite songs together. Ask a grandparent or older adult about their favorite songs. Listen to the songs together.
- Write a note or send a card to a favorite grandparent or older adult. Let them know you are thinking about them.
Once you complete any of these activities, mark it on the Beanstack app or website to complete the Intergenerational Relationships badge.
Remember to keep tracking your reading every day on your own. Once you reach the 10-day milestones, mark them complete in Beanstack! You can visit the treasure chest at your local library for a prize when you’ve reached 20, 50, 60, and 70 days of reading!
